Enhancements Feature New!

Enhancements are a way to even further customize the effect you are creating in Topaz Texture Effects. Now, all the adjustments you could use on your image can also be used on the adjustments themselves!

Introducing Enhancements

Enhancements are a direct and immediate way to create a unique look and feel all your own. Look for the +Enhance button shown near the bottom of any adjustment panel, and select how you'd like to further refine that adjustment. This feature will work on any adjustment type (Basic Adjustment, Border, etc.)

Enhancements can also be copy/pasted between adjustments, so if you have a particular modification you want to apply to other adjustments in your image, you can do it with ease. Just see the Copy/Paste section of this article for more information on how to do this. We also have a great video that showcases this feature.

Texture Adjustment with Green Tint Enhancement

This screenshot shows what happens when you set the Tint value to -1.00 (Green).

Try experimenting with different adjustments and enhancements to create something only you can think up, dream up, or smash together!

Enhancement Masking

Yep, that's right! You can also apply masks to the new Enhancements features we've added, so you only need to enable the mask to get started. The new masking modes (luminosity, color) are also available for use.

Edge Extension New!

This new feature will give you more control than ever over your image assets in Texture Effects! You can Tile, Mirror, or Extend the asset to the edges of your image. This allows you to create even more interesting and unique effects in Texture Effects.

Transparency Now Supported New!

Texture Effects will now accept imported images with transparency (alpha) values in the image. This will allow for smoother and more complete compositing and enable even further customization with your edits!

Import the Asset

As long as your asset is in an RGB colorspace, the import works exactly the same as importing in Texture Effects 1. For more information on the import process and requirements, please see the article or video below:

Add it to your image!

Add your imported transparent asset to your image, then rotate, scale, and adjust as you see fit! Any adjustment type that supports import will be able to take advantage of the new transparency support.

Copy/Paste Adjustments and Enhancements New!

Have you been using Texture Effects and noticed that you have to create an adjustment again from scratch, just to make a minor change? No more! Copy and paste that adjustment, and you're on your way to the next step in your workflow.

How it works:

First, click the menu icon on the Adjustment or Enhancement you would like to copy. You will see a menu displayed with four options: Reset, Copy, Paste, and Paste Enhancement. Each of these options are explained in their respective sections.

Reset:

Use this option to reset the Adjustment or Enhancement to default values. This is handy for those times when you want to start over on the adjustment, but hate the idea of removing the adjustment and replacing it, or double clicking slider titles to reset to default (which you can still totally do!). We believe the more control you have, the better.

Copy:

This is mostly self explanatory, but let's give some substance to this option. The Copy function is very powerful, as it will not only copy your Adjustment, but your Enhancements and Masks will also be copied. This option is less powerful than it lets on at first, but start copying and pasting, and you'll start to see the magic that is possible with multiple iterative adjustments of the same time. A light leak extravaganza, perhaps? You can copy entire Adjustments, or just the Enhancements, as you see fit.

Paste:

This option will allow you to paste the entire Adjustment, with any added Enhancements or Masks (Adjustment & Enhancement). When you paste an Adjustment, the newly created Adjustment will expand automatically, allowing you to work on the image immediately, without unnecessary extra clicks to move forward. We are all about saving time here at Topaz Labs, so we hope our customers appreciate the small things, like we do. Also, you can select Copy on the Enhancement you've created, then select Paste to convert that Enhancement into an Adjustment!

Paste Enhancement:

This option can be misleading, so we'll elaborate a bit on how this particular option works. Firstly, this option does not only paste the Enhancement from any Adjustment, it can take any Adjustment or Enhancement you've copied, then apply it as an Enhancement to another Adjustment. Think of this option as allowing you to decide if you want the item you copied to either be its own Adjustment, or if you want it to impact another Adjustment by becoming an Enhancement. The possibilities are beginning to slip out of sight!

Rotate Assets Now Supported New!

To rotate assets, first add an asset to your image. Then, use the Rotation slider to rotate the image up to 180º to the left or right. Currently, we use a -1.00 to 1.00 scale, where -1.00 represents -180º, and 1.00 represents 180º. That's all there is to it!

Interface Changes

Undo/Redo Controls

Another highly requested feature, the undo/redo ability has been added to Texture Effect 2. This undo/redo function is unlimited, which means that Texture Effects will allow you to go back and forth, as far back as your system memory will allow. No more making a slight change and not being able to correct it!

Sort it Yourself!

We have moved the Sort option to the top of the effects panel, so you don't have to hunt for it anymore! You can still sort alphabetically in either descending (A-Z) or ascending (Z-A) order.

Texture Effects 2 adds More Masks!

Color and Luminosity Masks Added!

The Color Mask

The color mask is an advanced masking technique that uses color value differences to create a mask for you. This mask is great for images that are clearly defined by color edges, and can bring a unique feel to the image you are creating.

The Luminosity Mask

The luminosity mask is an advanced masking technique that uses luminosity values to determine edges for the mask, and creates the mask for you. This mask can create detailed effects on light sources and 'glowing' portions of your image.

Adjustment Masks Are Now Persistent

In Texture Effects 1, there was a bit of a shortcoming regarding masks, and we're not afraid to acknowledge that. So unafraid of acknowledging it, in fact, that we tackled this issue head on, in order to rid the product of this limitation in Texture Effects 2. Now, you are able to rearrange your Adjustments (and Enhancements!) in your stack, without losing the mask you worked so hard on! This was a point of irriration for many customers who, until now, have just had to live with the limitation and work around it. No longer! Enjoy the persistent masks!

New Effects Added

25 new effects, totalling more than 160 included effects!

Over 145 effects from Texture Effects 1 included

New Professional Assets

50 new textures, 10 new borders, 30+ new double exposures!

You can preview the new assets by expanding the panels below

More Sliders and Controls

Re-Center Asset

A new option we have introduced to allow you more control over your assets in your workspace is the Re-Center button. This will essentially snap your asset back to the middle of your image, speeding up the process of tweaking and making changes

Detail Slider Added

We have put yet more control in your hands with the Adjustments and Enhancements you can add to your image. Now, you can increase or decrease the detail in Dust/Scratches, as well as the Light Leaks Adjustment/Enhancement

Brightness and Contrast Slider Added

We have added Brightness and Contrast sliders to the Texture Adjustment, for even more control over the wide variety of textures present in Texture Effects

Topaz Community

Easy Access and Smarter Search

 New Icon

To access the Topaz Community, select the Source icon, then select the Community, or Both. This option was previously hidden behind the Browse button, so if you are looking for the options in the Browse view, we have consolidated everything so it can be viewed whether using a single column, or several.

 Search

To search, press the three-dot menu button, the select Search. You can search by preset name, or Topaz Labs username. You can find your username on your My Account Page, or on your Topaz Labs Forum Profile. You can view other users' usernames there, as well! Give it a try!

Automatic Asset Migration

If you have imported your own textures, borders, light leaks, or other image assets into Texture Effects 1, we automatically import those for you, when you install Texture Effects 2. You should see the assets listed in the same categories you imported them to in Texture Effects 1. You must have Texture Effects 1 installed when installing Texture Effects 2, for this feature to work.

Automatic Preset Migration

If you have created custom presets in Texture Effects 1, and want to make sure you can continue using them in Texture Effects 2, we have good news! Texture Effects 2 detects those custom presets from your previous version and adds them to the application's My Presets category during installation. This means you can seamlessly update and continue to use the latest version of Texture Effects, without the added work of moving your presets. You must have Texture Effects 1 installed when installing Texture Effects 2, for this feature to work.

Interface Changes

Split View Options

We have added split view, side by side view, and stacked views, that you have all come to know and love in Impression and Glow, to Texture Effects 2. This has been a very highly requested feature, that we are proud to now provide to all of our customers in this latest updates. The controls for this new interface feature are in the top bar, where they are also located in Impression and Glow

We Added Tooltips!

Yes! Tooltips! We have begun adding Tooltips to Texture Effects, with most of the interface options covered already. If you think something in the application needs a tooltip, but doesn't have one, just let us know and we'll look into it for you!

Contextual Edge Exposure

Now, when you select an edge to create an exposure on, the sliders will update with the name of the edge you have selected: top, bottom, left, or right.

Expandable Panel

Expanding the Effects panel can now be achieved by dragging the edge of the panel, instead of using the Browse button from Texture Effects 1. This panel can only be expanded when in Effects mode. The Parameters panel will not be expandable.

Functionality Changes

Auto Panning

No longer do you need to hold down the spacebar in order to pan around your image. We have changed the spacebar to an original/edited view toggle, and have enabled pan mode by default in Texture Effects 2. All of this was done in the interest of speed, thanks to feedback from our customers!

Anchored Opacity and Overall Mask

We have anchored the Opacity slider and Overall Mask to the bottom of the application window, instead of at the bottom of the effect stack. This change allows you to quickly adjust the strength of the edit you're working on, whether it is a custom effect you are creating from scratch, or from the hundreds of available presets in the Community!

Enabled Mouse Zoom

You are now able to zoom in and out with your mouse, up to 100%. We have put a lot of work into our zoom tools, and we feel this control has matured enough to finally re-release into this latest update to Texture Effects!

Effect Info Popup

The Effect information screen we showed you in Texture Effects 1 needed a new home, when we moved the Community into the main Effects panel. So, we have moved this information to a popup that can be accessed by pressing the   icon in the top right corner of the effect you want to know more about.
